Annual Speed Networking Event a Great Success!

On June 4th almost 50 Boston-area professionals gathered at the Microsoft NERD Center for Net Impact’s 6th Annual Speed Networking. The evening brought together impact-driven individuals, mixing industries and seasoned professionals with young professionals, all interested in learning from one another and Net Impact’s VIP guests.

It was a picture-perfect summer night. As everyone arrived people congregated in the bar area to enjoy drinks, food and a spectacular view of the Charles River and the Boston skyline. It was not a shy group and conversation quickly grew boisterous with a blend of familiar and fresh faces. At the official start of Speed Networking 2013 the six VIPs including Ceres’s Brooke Barton, ZipCar’s Bill Connolly, TripAdvisor’s Jenny Rushmore, MassDEP’s John Fischer, True Impact’s Farron Levy and Vertex/Net Impact’s Tom Reid each hosted a table on a specific topic. The topics covered a spectrum of sustainability-related issues: Sustainable Transportation, Renewable Energy, Public/Private Partnerships, Social Impact Measurement, Collective Consumption and Water. At each 15-minute round participants followed a rotation scheduled to switch tables and speak with a new VIP as well as a new cohort of participants.

The evening was a mixer of ideas and people. The Speed Networking structure made for a quick dive into interesting conversation and sharing insight from different sectors. The four minute breaks between each round quickly turned into overflow as participants kept talking at each table. After all six rounds many of the attendees stayed on to keep the conversations and connections going. The beauty of the night was the diversity of backgrounds and experiences melding together. The theme was excitement about learning more about the breadth of activity in the Boston sustainability scene.

Laughter, the exchange of business cards and lingering attendees made it clear the night created lasting connections. Speed Networking will be back in 2014, until then Net Impact upcoming events will keep building ties between impact-driven professionals. Check out our upcoming events to find opportunities to join the fun and add your ideas to the mix.
