Nathan Rothstein, President, Project Repat is a panelist for the “Valuing and Securing Funding for your Startup” session at the Net Impact Boston Career Summit on February 21st. Here’s a sneak preview of what’s in store.
What inspired you to pursue a career with positive social or environmental impact?
Businesses should add value to the world, not take it away. A great business offers people a product they want to buy, and creates a supply chain with a mission. I wanted to start a businesses that makes money and creates prosperity along the value chain.
What’s the most interesting/most fun/most challenging aspect of your job?
I like solving problems – we always have logistics problems and are always figuring out ways to make our purchasing process simpler. I also really enjoy thinking of creative ways to get as many people to know about Project Repat as possible – that means using a lot of non-profit skills to create partnerships and listen to customers.
What advice would you give to those looking for a career with a positive social or environmental impact?
Go and work at a non-profit first, learn how they fulfill their mission and then see if you can apply those same standards to the business world.
