NIB Career Q&A: Harriet Henry, Consultant, Cause Consulting

Harriet Henry HeadshotHarriet Henry, Consultant, Cause Consulting is a panelist for the “Effective CSR Marketing” session at the Net Impact Boston Career Summit on February 21st. Here’s a sneak preview of what you’ve got to look forward to.

What inspired you to pursue a career with positive social or environmental impact?
I’ve always been interested in social issues and was keen to find a way to make a difference through my career. I started out as a fundraiser for a UK youth charity. Working closely with companies opened my eyes to the power of aligning business and social objectives – it was a real a-ha moment! 6 years on and I’ve never looked back.

What’s the most interesting/most fun/most challenging aspect of your job?
I love seeing projects I’ve worked on come to life and seeing the resulting positive impact. What’s challenging is that it can take time for this to happen. As a bit of an idealist, I have a really clear vision of the potential power of companies to create transformational change and sometimes I have to reign myself back in and remind myself that it’s a journey.

What advice would you give to those looking for a career with a positive social or environmental impact?
There are so many different ways to have a positive social or environmental impact through your work so never stop looking for opportunities to make a difference. You may not have a job title with ‘CSR’ or ‘sustainability’ in it but that doesn’t mean you can’t create positive change.

Sign up today to come to the Career Summit on February 21st and join the panel “Effective CSR Marketing” to hear more from Harriet.
