5 Tips for a Sustainable Lifestyle in Boston

NIB Leadership Team Career Summit Co-Chair and sustainable living guru Alana Gerson is a pro at finding ways to live sustainably in her surroundings. She is our go-to on the team for finding solutions to our everyday sustainability needs, so we have asked her to give 5 of her best tips for Boston, below! Watch our website and social media for an in-depth blog with more Boston sustainable living ideas from Alana later this month.

1.  Check out the fairly new Boston Public Market for produce, eggs and local products, and don’t miss the eggs from Chestnut Farms – their hens are  pasture-raised!
2.  Utilize the City of Boston’s Project Oscar to compost your food scraps in one of  6 community bins (East Boston, North End, Brighton, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain and City Hall Plaza). Review the list of acceptable items and fill out the composting quiz to test your knowledge.
3. Find local businesses and events doing good things for people and the planet with the DoneGood website and app.
4. Recycle outdated electronics and appliances at BestBuy.
5. Looking for a gift for a sustainable friend (or a treat for yourself!) that doesn’t sacrifice your values? Shop at Follain (locations in Beacon Hill and South End) for clean beauty products (for men too!).
